Rupee reacts against dollar

MUMBAI: The rupee on Monday turned sharply weak against the U.S. currency and lost 14 paise at 45.72/73 a dollar on fresh dollar demand after rise in crude oil prices along with news of North Koran nuclear weapons test and rise in dollar against other currencies.

In active trading at the interbank foreign exchange market, the Indian unit opened weak at 45.67/68 against last Friday's close of 45.58/59 and fell further sharply to 45.6600, before closing at 45.72/73.
