MUMBAI: The rupee ended at 44.27/28 a dollar on Wednesday, sharply lower from Tuesday's close of 44.21/22 on alternate bouts of dollar buying and selling, weighed down by a huge fall in equity markets.

Indian unit resumed 12.50 paise lower at 44.3350/3450 a dollar on fairly heavy dollar buying by banks.

The local currency traded in a range of 44.26 and 44.3650 during the day as most Asian currencies came under pressure following a meltdown in global equity markets. PTI
