KASARAGOD: Kisan Sena, an independent organisation of farmers, is starting 40 supermarkets in Kerala and Karnataka to sell farm-fresh products to the public at affordable rates.
According to Sena office-bearers, the price being provided to farmers by traders was very meagre.
At the same time the public have to pay very high prices for agricultural products.
The office-bearers said they felt there was no need for agents between them and the public.
“Our aim is to provide various products to consumers directly,” they said.
The markets would be managed by farmers themselves.
“We would organise procurement centres which would have facilities for storage of agricultural products,” they said.
A meeting of farmers would be held at the Karshaka Sena office at Badiadukka on July 22 at 9 a.m.
