KOLKATA: A brand of sparkling vodka, O2, manufactured by the U.K.-based firm International English Distillers was launched here on Wednesday.
“India is the first country in Asia to have launched this premium vodka,” said Sudip Majumdar, managing partner of a management consultancy firm, who have brought the drink to the country in partnership with a Kolkata-based firm that distributes wines and spirits.
The partnership has the exclusive import and distribution rights for the sparkling vodka in India, the remaining SAARC (South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation) countries, Dubai and Muscat, Mr. Majumdar added.
After its launch in Kolkata, O2 will be released in Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore and Pune. “The white spirits market has evolved over the last 15 years and the premium vodka segment has been growing at the rate of 30-40 per cent every year. So it was the perfect time to launch a product like this in the Indian market,” Mr. Majumdar said.
The new-year launch of this product will be followed by the introduction of a vodka-based liqueur, in India, he added.
The retail price for a bottle of O2 will be about Rs. 3,500, whereas a more refined offering will be priced at nearly Rs.4,500.
