To start online portal for SMEs
NEW DELHI: Eyeing fast-growing business networking space on the Internet, India Konnects is now working on creating communities exclusively for industries and companies in India. It is also planning to launch city-specific and business-specific communities.
The brainchild of Globsyn Innoventures, part of the Kolkata-based Globsyn Group, India Konnects was launched in January this year in association with Konnects of the U.S. It is now targeting active Internet user base in India that is around four crore, of which about 10 per cent is active in social networking.
Pointing out that this trend would grow further with the Internet user base growing exponentially, India Konnects Director Romit Dasgupta told The Hindu that there were more than 2.8 crore social networkers globally, a 50 per cent increase from last year.
“India is slowly emerging and waking up to a new form of networking, business networking, which is already a big success in western nations. It will not only enable professionals within companies to interact and share ideas with each other on a real-time basis but also enable them to communicate more effectively with other professionals from within their professional community globally as well as in the city,” said Mr. Dasgupta.
One such experiment that India Konnects is going to launch soon is in Gujarat where it will start an online networking portal exclusively for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in association with several chambers of commerce in the State. “We will offer segmented business networking opportunities on our portal, targeting industries such as diamond and textiles. We also plan to launch voice over Internet protocol (VoIP) operations for our users,” he said.
India Konnects has already a customer base of over three-lakh and is growing at a rate of few thousand users a day, said Mr. Dasgupta, and added that they were looking at investing further to ramp up their research and development, which is based of Kolkata, to meet the growing number of users.
According to Mr. Dasgupta: “Today, the fast-paced growth in the Indian telecom sector offers immense networking avenues for professionals. We are focussing on this opportunity by looking at aligning with the leading telecom operators to offer their customers an opportunity to access India Konnects on their mobile phones itself.”
