KOLKATA: The mother unit of Dunlop India at Sahagunj re-opened on Wednesday with a total of 875 workers reporting for duty. The 25 workers, against whom disciplinary action has been taken, have not been taken back although the matter had become a contentious issue.

Company sources said that the unit was now getting ready for production. Initial production is likely to be of the order of 40 tonnes, it was learnt.

The Sahagunj unit, in the state’s industrial belt in Hooghly district, had been closed in November 30 2008, after the unions opposed the management’s proposal for a temporary shutdown in wake of the global financial crisis.
