NEW DELHI: The BT Group, the U.K.'s incumbent telecom operator, on Tuesday announced its decision to acquire the Mumbai-based i2i Enterprise Ltd., a company specialising in Internet protocol services. This move will help BT become a leading global carrier in the local market.

A formal agreement for the acquisition has been inked.

The acquisition would help BT expand its customer base and build a broad-based platform for growth in India, BT India Managing Director, C. S.
