KOCHI: The National Small Industries Corporation (NSIC), a public sector enterprise of the Ministry of Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises, is providing facilities for e-commerce through its new B2B portal www.nsicindia.com. The initiative is part of the Corporation’s marketing assistance scheme.

The new web portal was launched last year recognising the need for exchange of business information for promoting e-commerce. It offers facilities for virtual exhibition, electronic news letters, SMS alerts apart from a centralised mail system. The portal provides opportunities for competing on global markets and to align with various players across the world.

The Ministry considers marketing as an important tool for business development. The Corporation acts as a facilitator to promote small industries products and has devised a number of schemes. The Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises (MSME) sector does not have these resources at their command and thus needs institutional support for providing these inputs in the area of marketing, according to the Corporation officials.

The government had been embarking on several programmes for improving the competency of MSMEs through various means. Programmes for technology and skill upgradation, vendor development and export promotional ventures were part of such initiatives. Products of MSME exporters had been displayed at international exhibitions with a provision to reimburse the expenditure by the government. Various kinds of training programmes were organised for the exporters in the sector on packaging, considering the importance of latest packaging technology in conquering new markets. A marketing development assistance scheme had also been launched to help individuals for taking part in overseas exhibitions. The government stores purchase programme was launched to market the products.
