The Board of Approval for special economic zones is scheduled to meet on September 14 to consider fresh proposals for setting up tax-free enclaves.

“The development commissioners of tax-free zones have been asked to forward proposals regarding SEZs along with their comments at the earliest so that they could be placed before the meeting,” the Commerce Ministry said.

The BoA, in its last meeting, gave extra time to 33 SEZ developers, including Uttam Galva Steels, Unitech Infracon and GMR Hyderabad International Airport, to execute their projects.

The government would soon come out with new norms to revive SEZs, which have lost sheen after imposition of certain levies and loss of tax incentives.—PTI
