Plans to introduce a small car in the next 3-5 years
NEW DELHI: SkodaAuto, a part of Germany-based Volkswagen Group, on Tuesday launched an all-new version of its sedan Superb in the Indian market. Priced at Rs. 18.88 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), the refurbished Superb comes with 1.8 litre 160 bhp turbocharged petrol engine, automatic seven-speed gear box and a host of luxury and safety features.
Launching the luxury sedan, SkodaAuto India board member (sales and marketing) Thomas Kuehl said: “We hope the car will do well in India and sell at least 1,000 units by this year-end, particularly keeping in mind its competitive pricing. Indian car market is already seeing a turnaround after six months and we hope to do well in the fast growing Indian auto market.” It sold 522 Superb models in the last 11 months.
Mr. Kuehl said that the company was also looking at launching a new small car in the coming years and would be priced below its entry-level model Fabia. “The new small car will be launched in the next 3-5 years,” he added. The company also sells Laura, Octavia and Superb. It has a network of 60 dealerships and has sold over 65,000 units since 2001.
