MUMBAI: The Sensex gained further by over 130 points on the Bombay Stock Exchange on Wednesday on fund buying in index-related stocks led by metal, machinery and automobile segments.
Communication stocks under the leadership of Sensex-linked Bharti Airtel and Reliance Communication supported the bullish trend to some extent after reports of segment majors increased their subscriber-based network.
The BSE 30-share Sensex rose by 130.21 points to 11145.18. In volatile trading, the index touched a high of 11187.65 and a low of 10943.83.
Similarly, the National Stock Exchange index Nifty gained 42.20 points at 3254.60. The Nifty witnessed a high of 3267.20 and a low of 3187.85.
Metal shares were the front-runners and the metal index gained the most, by 161.98 points at 8055.31 on brisk buying on reports of a rise in base metal prices in global markets.
Machinery stocks such as Larsen and Toubro, Bharat Heavy Electricals, Bharat Electronics, Laxmi Machines, Siemens and Kirloskar were higher on rising construction business. With the result, the capital goods index stood second by gaining 132.77 points at 7402.25 followed by consumer durables index by 101.33 points at 2860.40. PTI
