Launches three models

KOLKATA: The Toray Group of Japan on Monday entered the $250 million water purification market on Monday with the launch of a range of products.

Starting with Kolkata, the products would be launched in Banglaore, New Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai and Hyderabad, before fanning out to other large cities, senior personnel of the $12.4-billion group said at a press meet here. The company is a global leader in organic synthetic technology, polymer chemistry and bio-chemistry.

The three models launched use the hollow fibre membrane filtration and purification technology, which catches microscopic impurities, red rust particles, colliform bacilli, bacteria and protozoa says the company.

Yoshiaki Kamiyama, adviser, Indian business team, Sumikin Bussan Corporation (Sumitomo Group), which exports the products on behalf of Toray, said the products would be imported and there were only two plants in Japan, making purifier.

However, the products, priced between Rs. 3,530 and Rs. 10,170, cannot remove arsenic a problem prevalent in large parts of West Bengal.
