MUMBAI: The rupee on Monday closed sharply lower against the U.S. dollar on fresh dollar demand after rise in the U.S. currency against the Euro and the Japanese yen.

Dollar demand was so strong that firm stock prices and a fall in crude oil failed to boost the rupee sentiment, dealers said.

In restricted activity at the interbank foreign exchange market, the Indian unit resumed notably weak at 44.91/92 a dollar from last weekend's close of 44.82/83. PTI
