CHENNAI: Tata Teleservices, on Wednesday, jumped on the GSM bandwagon with the commercial launch of Tata DOCOMO brand of services initially in Tamil Nadu.
The services would be extended to cover the entire South within a fortnight.
Pan-India roll out
The Managing Director of the company, Anil Sardana, kick-started the GSM service by making the maiden call to the Union Minister for Telecommunication, A. Raja.
The pan-India roll out was expected to be completed by this year. Addressing a press conference here, Mr. Sardana said the Tata DOCOMO GSM service would bring about a paradigm shift in the consumer experience by the introduction of `pay per use’ concept. Telecom service providers had been charging customer per minute of the usage. The Tata DOCOMO GSM service, however, would charge its users a paisa per second for all voice calls across the country.
