The slider phone is priced at Rs. 18,999
NEW DELHI: Samsung Electronics on Thursday launched ‘Metal 5’ handsets in India. Priced at Rs. 18,999, the slimmest five mega pixel camera phone in metallic finish comes with MP3 player, a mobile tracker, emergency SMS alert and mobile printing via Bluetooth.
The slider phone would be available in the domestic market by the end of this month, Samsung Telecommunications India Managing Director H. C. Ryu said at a press conference here. The company was targeting to sell one-crore handsets in India next year and aimed to double its share in the mobile phone market to 15 per cent, he added.
“There is high consumer demand for gadget convergence in India. Consumers opt for camera phones that are much more convenient for capturing spontaneous shots. As per an independent study, by 2010 almost 100-crore camera phones will be sold worldwide. In India we are witnessing a phenomenal growth in the imaging segment where the market is growing at six per cent. At present one-third of mobile phones sold in India have built-in camera,” said Mr. Ryu.
According to the company’s General Manager (GSM Marketing), Asim Warsi, Samsung would launch over eight new models in the first quarter of next year. The company would also increase the number of outlets to 1,000 by the first quarter of next year from the current 300 for its “shop and shop programme”.
