NEW DELHI: Industrial growth slipped to a sluggish 11.1 per cent in December 2006 from a high of 14.4 per cent a month earlier, mainly owing to a slump in the manufacturing sector, which grew by a relatively lower 11.9 per cent during the month.

However, according to quick estimates of the Index of Industrial Production (IIP) released by the Central Statistical Organisation (CSO) here on Monday, the December growth at 11.1 per cent was still a substantial improvement over the 5.7 per cent increase posted in December 2005. Although the manufacturing sector growth during December this fiscal at 11.9 per cent was way above the 6.4 per cent rise witnessed in the same month of 2005, it was far below the high of 15.7 per cent achieved in November 2006.
