‘Innov8’ is priced at Rs. 45,999

BANGALORE: Samsung Mobile on Wednesday launched its first 8 mega pixel camera phone, Innov8. The company also announced plans to enhance its volume share in the ‘super phone’ and ‘smart phone’ categories and introduce another nine mobile phone models this year.

Samsung Mobile Country Head Sunil Dutt told reporters here that “While 68 per cent of mobile phone users go for basis models, the niche market for high-end phones is 7 to 8 per cent. We plan to have a significant presence in that category.”

While Innov8 combined several features like photo, music, video and GPS options, there was demand for phones designed for music or with touch screens for business users alone, he said.

Innov8 has a price tag of Rs. 45,999 and the Omnia models launched last week are priced around Rs. 37,999.

Samsung Mobile, which claims a 55-per cent market share across categories in the phone market, is appointing 60 per cent more sales and service partners this year. The Korean company has also tied up with IFFCO to sell mobile phones through farm input outlets in rural areas.
