Apollo Tyres' Chennai plant is to be a benchmark for the tyre industry, Onkar S. Kanwar, Chairman of the company, has said.
Addressing journalists on the eve of the annual general meeting held in Kochi on Thursday, Mr. Kanwar said a total of Rs. 2,300 core was being invested in the greenfield project in Chennai to make it the most efficient, modern and productive plant across Asia.
The plant was already producing truck-bus radial and passenger car tyres. Exactly four months after production commenced, dispatch of consignments to Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) also started, the first being Hyundai Motor India Limited. Describing the Chennai plant as ‘a breakthrough plant,' Mr. Kanwar said it would produce by the end of this year 16,000 passenger car and 6,000 truck-bus radial tyres daily.
