The Hindu ’s readership has recorded an impressive growth of 11 per cent in Coimbatore in the second quarter of 2012 over the corresponding period last year. This is revealed in the just-released findings of the Indian Readership Survey (IRS). The Hindu maintains a commanding Average Issue Readership (AIR) of 1,02,000 in Coimbatore. This is an improvement over its figure of 92,000 in 2011 Q2. Thus, The Hindu ’s readership is far more than that of all the other English dailies put together in Coimbatore. The Hindu has shown a growth of 3.7 per cent also in the rest of Tamil Nadu and in Puducherry, adding over 39,000 readers over the corresponding period last year. This goes to prove the continued preference for the daily in the region. The Hindu gained 1,31,000 readers. This constitutes a growth of 6.3 per cent in national readership as compared to the corresponding quarter last year. The publication’s current AIR is 22.08 lakh. Once again, The Hindu retains its position as the most-read English daily in South India and the third largest English newspaper nationally. The Hindu , with its 134-year-long track record of editorial and technical excellence and commitment to providing news in a credible and an interesting and engaging manner, has reinforced its supremacy as South India’s most preferred English daily.
