The Hindu’s commanding position in Chennai has been reconfirmed by the Indian Readership Survey (IRS) figures for the second quarter of 2012. With an average issue readership of 5.31 lakh in the metro, The Hindu is read by more Chennaivasis than all the other English dailies put together. The Hindu has shown a growth of 6.6 per cent in Chennai over the corresponding period last year.
The Hindu has shown a growth of 3.7 per cent in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, adding more than 39,000 readers over the corresponding period last year.
Across India, The Hindu gained 1,31,000 readers. This represents a growth of 6.3 per cent in national readership compared to the corresponding quarter last year. The publication’s current average issue readership (AIR) is 22.08 lakh. Once again, The Hindu retains its position as the most-read English daily in South India and the third largest English newspaper nationally.
