The Hindu reporter bags Laadli Media Award

Amutha Kannan, Principal Correspondent of The Hindu , Coimbatore Bureau, has won the Fourth Edition Laadli Media Awards For Gender Sensitivity 2011-12 (Southern Region) under the Best Human Interest Story (Print Media –English) category. Ms. Kannan’s human interest story about a team of women who bury the destitute, which appeared in The Hindu dated March 9, 2011 under the title ‘Ensuring Dignified Burial For The Destitute’ has fetched her the award. Speaker of Kerala Legislative Assembly G. Karthikeyan presented the award in a function held in Thiruvananthapuram on Saturday. The story is about an all-women team who ensure that all unclaimed bodies at the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital are given proper burial. Ms. Kannan has been with The Hindu for six years and covers stories on social welfare and higher education. Ms. Kannan is one among the 23 journalists who received this year’s Laadli Media Awards, which is supported by United Nations Population Fund (UNFA). The award covers six languages and 20 categories.
