The Hindu has recorded an impressive growth of 23.3 per cent in its readership in Hyderabad in the second quarter of 2012 over the corresponding quarter in 2011, according to the latest release of the Indian Readership Survey (IRS). The readership in Hyderabad has gone up from 90,000 in 2011 Q2 to 1,11,000 in 2012 Q2.

The growing trend has prevailed in overall readership figures for all of Andhra Pradesh too. Across the State, the readership of the newspaper has gone up from 2.96 lakh in IRS 2011 Q2 to 3.08 lakh in IRS 2012 Q2. This represents a growth of 4.1 per cent.

Across India, The Hindu gained 1,31,000 readers. This represents a growth of 6.3 per cent in national readership as compared to the corresponding quarter last year. The publication’s current Average Issue Readership (AIR) is 22.08 lakh. Once again, The Hindu retains its position as the most-read English daily in South India and the third largest English language newspaper nationally.
