THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Kerala government would soon hold direct talks with Tecom authorities on the contentious issues relating to the proposed SmartCity project in Kochi, Chief Minister V. S. Achuthanandan said here on Wednesday.

Briefing reporters after the weekly Cabinet meeting, the Chief Minister said the Tecom authorities would be coming to the State for the discussions. He declined to join issue with Leader of the Opposition Oommen Chandy on the disputed issues and said the discussions with the Tecom group had nothing to do with the crisis-hit Dubai World. The discussions would be centred on what they thought about the current impasse and how they proposed to proceed with the project.

Replying to questions, he said several groups had come forward to take up the project and those included one of the IT majors from the U. S. He did not think that neither Mr. Chandy nor KPCC president Ramesh Chennithala had any right to criticise the government about the manner in which it had gone about executing the SmartCity project after they had tried to give away the Infopark in Kochi to the Tecom group when they were in power.

Price rise

Mr. Achuthanandan said the government was doing everything within its power to hold the price line.

He said the government was not contented with what it was doing and wished to do much more.
