The functioning of schools and colleges was affected in Andhra and Rayalaseema districts on Saturday following the call for bandh by various student organisations protesting the government's decision to postpone the written test for recruitment of sub-inspectors of police.

Police resorted to lathicharge against a group that blocked traffic in Gooty town of Anantapur district. The TDP MLA of Puttaparthi, Palle Raghunatha Reddy, was among those arrested by police while holding up traffic on Bangalore highway in Anantapur. The Bangalore-bound KK Express train was detained at Anantapur railway station.

There was, however, no disturbance to normal life anywhere barring the rasta-roko and traffic jams. An attempt by students to foil the exams of Law College on Andhra University campus in Visakhapatnam was foiled by police. Another batch of students also tried to storm the house of Visakhapatnam (North) T. Vijay Kumar, but were arrested. The students later commenced an indefinite hunger strike on the campus.

The police arrested Praja Rajyam MLAs K. Kanna Babu, Vanga Geeta and P. Gandhi Mohan along with others when they obstructed traffic at the Sarpavaram junction in Kakinada. Traffic was held up at Nandigama on National Highway 9 and NH 18 in Kurnool.
