The State government has sought Rs.500 crore as Central assistance to compensate for the damage from heavy rain, landslips and floods in the State during the last nine months.
The demand was raised during the discussions Chief Minister V. S. Achuthanandan had here on Thursday with a Central team that toured the State to assess the damage. The Chief Minister said the State had spent Rs.1,050 crore for flood relief and reconstruction.
Revenue Minister K.P. Rajendran told the media that the State government had sought a change in Central norms for assessing damage from natural calamities.
