The State Budget will be presented in the Legislative Assembly on March 21.
The Cabinet, which met here on Friday, approved the commencement of the budget session from March 20. The duration of the legislature session has, however, not been finalised. In all likelihood, the session may last six days.
Briefing presspersons on the decisions taken at the Cabinet meeting, Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs S. Suresh Kumar said approval had been given for yet another private university — the M.S. Ramaiah University of Applied Sciences — and the Bill would be introduced in the budget session.
Mr. Kumar said the State Government would stand guarantee for the money raised by the Karnataka State Cooperative Marketing Federation for the purchase of chemical fertilizers for the coming kharif season. The federation has to purchase fertilizers at a cost of Rs. 1,163 crore, apart from incurring an expenditure of Rs. 30.50 crore for interest on loan and over Rs. 20 crore for transportation and storage costs. The plan is to purchase around eight lakh tonnes of fertilizers ahead of the sowing season.
