P. Gadilingappa, who unsuccessfully contested on BJP ticket against B. Sriramulu in the 2011 by-election to Bellary (ST) Assembly constituency, has quit the party, miffed over the “red carpet welcome to those (Mr. Sriramulu) who had embarrassed the party”.

“I am pained over the latest political developments. The BJP leaders, ignoring the staunch followers, are giving a red carpet welcome to those who had embarrassed the party and against whom we had fought. This only indicates that in the party, which was known for discipline, priority is being accorded only to win the election, giving a go-by to the principles that person was above the party,” he said here on Friday.

Mr. Gadilingappa said he had exhibited courage, when others feared to hold the party flag, to take on the mighty by contesting in the by-election.

But gradually, the coordination between the party leaders and workers was getting diminished and he was not invited to attend important meetings and functions. All these factors had pained him and he decided to quit the BJP, he said.
