KARIMNAGAR: APSRTC Chairman M. Satyanarayana Rao has reiterated that AICC president Sonia Gandhi and Pranab Mukherjee Committee were positive on the formation of separate Telangana State before elections.
In an informal chat with the electronic media here on Sunday, Mr. Rao said Ms. Gandhi had assured him to discuss the Telangana issue with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on his return from abroad.
Recollecting his meeting with Ms. Gandhi in New Delhi recently, Mr. Rao said, “This is the first time I saw her being very positive on Telangana issue. Ms. Gandhi promised that she will convene a meeting with the core committee of party and a take a positive decision. Once she calls for a meeting, I think something positive will come out,” he maintained.
He said the party high command would introduce a Bill on the formation of Telangana State in Parliament in December this year. After formation of Telangana State, there was no need for the Congress to forge an alliance with any party and it would sweep elections on its own, he maintained.
He hoped that the Telangana State would be a reality before 2009 elections. He said that there was no opposition from Andhra leaders as they too wanted two Telugu speaking States in the country.
