Charges relate to murder, illegal possession of fire arms, trespass at night
All the 13 arrested so far in connection with the firing over a property dispute in the Shakespeare Sarani police station area of the city early on Monday were produced in the city court on Tuesday and remanded in police custody till November 25.
They include a woman and two of her associates who were occupants of a building housing a private nursery school, from where they had allegedly fired on a group of persons accused of trespassing into the premises.
Two of those produced in the court were arrested late on Monday night.
Two persons were killed and another seriously injured when Mamta Agarwal, principal of the school, and her associates allegedly opened fire on the intruders.
While Ms. Agarwal and two of her associates have been charged with murder and illegal possession of fire arms the police had registered case against 10 others for trespassing at night with intent to cause hurt.
There were noisy scenes in the courtroom after government counsel posed a personal question to Ms. Agarwal regarding Kamal Kumar Nahata, another occupant of the building who claims that the disputed property belongs to him. Her counsel told the court that the firing was in self defence as it was natural for those inside the compound to panic after a group intruders forcibly entered the premises.
Counsel for the 10 other accused who were engaged with a security agency and had gone to the spot on instructions of the agency said they were not armed and thus the charges brought against them by the police were not justified.
