In a string of dramatic developments on Thursday, the Cyberabad Police detained former Minister and Secunderabad Cantonment MLA P. Shankar Rao for questioning in the long pending Green Fields Colony land grabbing case.
They later rushed him to Gandhi Hospital when he complained of chest pain.
Members of the MLA’s family shifted him to a private hospital in Banjara Hills when his blood pressure dropped. He also complained of breathlessness.
The picking up of the MLA from his house at Zamisthanpur in Musheerabad by a posse of policemen in the evening and his detention at Neredmet suggested that his arrest was imminent.
As they drove him to Gandhi Hospital after some time, his supporters believed that their leader was being taken there for the mandatory medical check-up preceding the arrest.
Even as some of them rushed to Gandhi and staged a demonstration demanding his release, the police authorities announced that they weren’t going to arrest him.
“He was brought to police station for questioning and shifted to Gandhi Hospital following complaint of chest pain. He is free to go anywhere now,” the Alwal ACP, G. Ganesh Reddy, said.
Earlier, mild tension prevailed at Neredmet police station when the MLA’s daughter, Susmitha, and his supporters assembled there condemning his detention while residents of Green Fields Colony fighting the case gathered there urging police to arrest him.
The case dates back to 2011. The Green Fields Colony Welfare Association president, S. Chandrashekhar, filed a petition in the court alleging that Mr. Rao, his brother P. Dayanand and others tried to claim rights over 75 acres of land in the colony at Kanajiguda by presenting forged documents.
