VISAKHAPATNAM: District and Sessions Judge N.R.L. Nageswara Rao on Wednesday sentenced a man to seven years rigorous imprisonment for murdering his wife.
The accused Somala Pothuraju of Mampa village in the district had married Radha 13 years ago. The couple has two children. Pothuraju was addicted to alcohol and used to beat and quarrel with his wife frequently. Radha had sent her children to live with her parents at Yeleswaram in East Godavari district.
On March 19, 2008, the husband and wife had an altercation following which Pothuraju slashed the throat of his wife with a kitchen knife resulting in her instantaneous death.
A case was registered by the Koyyuru Police.
The prosecution was conducted by Public Prosecutor Krishna Kumari.
The judge also directed the accused to pay a fine of Rs.500 and in default to undergo an additional six months in prison.
