All 100 passengers on the India-bound Samjhauta Express escaped unhurt on Monday, after its engine caught fire in Pakistan’s Punjab province.
The locomotive burst into flames immediately after the train left the Mughalpura station owing to a short-circuit in a battery, the Railway Police said.
The driver immediately decoupled the engine from the train, averting any damage.
The Railway Police said there was no evidence of sabotage. The Railways has set up a committee to ascertain the cause of the fire. The train left for India a few hours behind schedule, after a replacement engine came from Lahore. — PTI
