Kolkata: Admitting a security lapse, the West Bengal government on Monday suspended a police inspector and two constables for Sunday’s mine blast in West Midnapore district that had endangered the life of Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee and two Union Ministers.

“How can I deny that there was no security lapse involving the Chief Minister and two Union Ministers while they were returning to Kolkata from Salboni yesterday?” Home Secretary Asok Mohan Chakraborty told journalists here.

“Responsibility will be fixed for the lapses and steps will be taken irrespective of rank,” he said. — PTI
