A Registered Medical Practitioner, I.V. Premsagar, was shot dead in his clinic at Devammabasthi in Jagadgirigutta of Jeedimetla on Tuesday.

The 42-year-old RMP was in his Arpita clinic when two unidentified persons walked inside posing as patients around 10 p.m.

They went inside his room and shot him on his neck from close range. Alerted by the gunshot, some patients waiting outside ran into Premsagar's room. By then, he was and found him lying in a pool of blood. He was rushed to BBR Hospital in Balanagar where doctors declared him brought dead. The RMP's family members told the police that he had been receiving threat calls from some persons claiming to be Maoists. The callers reportedly demanded Rs. 10 lakh and warned him that he would be killed if the money was not paid. “These threatening call details are yet to be verified,” the Balanagar ACP, S. Damodar, said.
