Families affected by the Bellary Nala irrigation project in Belgaum district can look forward to compensation for their land submerged due to the construction of the dam, according to Minister for Water Resources M.B. Patil.
He also promised relief and resettlement work within six months.
Mr. Patil, who is inspecting irrigation projects in the Upper Krishna basin in north Karnataka region, inspected the Bellary Nala project site near Siddanahalli village on Tuesday.
He promised to award compensation to the affected families, in accordance with the Land Acquisition Bill, within six months.
He admitted there had been a delay in the payment of compensation.
The Minister did not out rule out the possibility of re-opening the ‘file’ on large-scale irregularities that came to light during the previous BJP government. An executive engineer had been suspended for large-scale irregularities, but his suspension was revoked later.
