Ravanan, a relative of Sasikala, the former close aide of Chief Minister Jayalalithaa, was reportedly taken into custody by the Coimbatore Rural Police in a criminal case.
Media circles here were agog with rumours since Thursday evening that Ravanan has been ‘arrested' in a case of murder. However, sources said that Ravanan, who was in Chennai and reportedly surrendered to the police there, was brought to Coimbatore for questioning in connection with a criminal case. Police sources said the needle of suspicion pointed to Ravanan in a case relating to the death of a former AIADMK functionary of the Nilgiris district in a road accident in Karumathampatti police limits a couple of days ago. The family members of the functionary had raised doubts over the accident and suspected foul play. Hence, the police suspected a conspiracy behind the accident, leading to the picking up of Ravanan for questioning.
