Senior IPS officer Ranjit Sinha is tipped to be the next Director of the Central Bureau of Investigation. A 1974 batch officer of the Bihar cadre, Mr. Sinha is now Director-General of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police.

Official sources said the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet, headed by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, has approved Mr. Sinha’s name from a shortlist of three IPS officers. An official order was still awaited, they said.

CBI Director A.P. Singh’s tenure ends on November 30.

Apparently peeved at his name left out of the shortlist, Delhi Police Commissioner Neeraj Kumar has moved the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT).

Mr. Kumar, a 1976 batch IPS officer, has approached the Tribunal questioning the procedure for picking the three officers and excluding his name for the top post of CBI.
