New Delhi: Supporters of Pervesh Verma, who was denied ticket by the Bharatiya Janata Party, expressed their displeasure by protesting outside the residence of party leader L.K. Advani on Saturday and deciding to hold a ‘mahapanchayat’ of Jats on Sunday to chalk out their future strategy.
However, party spokesman Prakash Javadekar said the matter was amicably resolved at a meeting Mr. Advani held with Mr. Verma’s supporters.
Mr. Verma, son of the former Delhi Chief Minister Sahib Sigh Verma, was hoping to get the BJP ticket from West Delhi. While this did not happen, he was assured a place in the party leadership.
“Some of Verma’s supporters gathered at Advani’s residence. A delegation met him and they were satisfied with the conversation they had with the senior leader. They have promised to work for the party,” Mr. Javadekar told reporters after the meeting.
