Pre-counselling guidance programme today

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The seventh edition of The Hindu -EducationPlus pre-counselling guidance-cum- orient ation programme will begin at the Tagore Centenary Hall here at 10 a.m. on Sunday.

This off-the-page initiative by The Hindu comes at a time when the window for submission of course-college options is scheduled to commence shortly.

Though registration for the programme—Courses and Choices -- Sessions on the Professional Streams and More—has closed, a limited number of spot registrations would be allowed on Sunday at the venue. This will begin at 9.15 a.m. Those candidates who have made provisional registrations by email should confirm their participation at the registration counters at the venue prior to the commencement of the programme.

Over 400 students accompanied by their parents participated in a similar programme held at the A.J. Hall in Kochi on Saturday. Special presentations on aviation, logistics, animation, accountancy and study abroad were held in the afternoon session.

In Thiruvananthapuram, in the forenoon session, Joint Commissioner for Entrance Examinations K. Reghunadhan Pillai will make a presentation on the intricacies of the Centralised Allotment Process (CAP) and the dos and don'ts of the process. The presentation by noted career guidance expert B.S. Warrier will throw light on engineering courses and put each branch of study in perspective.

The art and science of finalising the apt course-college combinations would be the focal theme of the presentation by A. Krishna Swamy, a bio-medical engineer and an alumnus of the Indian Institute of Management-Kozhikode. Head of Kerala Operations of Ma Foi Ganesh Padmanabhan will speak on job markets and soft skills.

The afternoon programme, scheduled to commence at 2.30 p.m., will focus on three ‘alternative careers.'

A.S. Vinod, National Academic Head of Toonz Animations, will speak on the world of animation and gaming. Director of the Kerala Institute of Travel and Tourism Studies V. Rajeevan will make a presentation on the hospitality, tourism and travel industry. Chartered Accountant R. Sridhar will provide the roadmap for a career in Chartered Accountancy.

The State Bank of Travancore is the presenting sponsor of the event. The associate sponsors are the Cooperative Academy of Professional Education and Shadwells. Kairali channel is the television partner, while Club FM is the radio partner of the event.
