HYDERABAD: Performance of students in the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examination improved for the third consecutive year with 78.82 per cent of students clearing it this year.

Pass percentage in 2008 was 75.47 and 71.65 before that. Interestingly, except Warangal district, all other districts improved their performance and notably Nalgonda and Adilabad did extremely well increasing their pass percentage by nearly 20 per cent, registering 79.64 and 77.74 per cent respectively.

The results were declared by the Secondary Education Minister J. Manikya Varaprasada Rao, here on Wednesday. The Minister said that 7,89,468 regular students passed this year of which 5,43,337 secured first division. He said 1,73,104 candidates passed in second division while only 73,027 students passed in third class. He said 1,52,670 private candidates cleared the exam.

Hyderabad district maintained its previous position of third from the bottom though pass percentage increased to 70.37 per cent.

The A.P. Residential Schools registered 96.02 pass percentage and Social Welfare Residential schools secured 92.96.

In Zilla Parishad schools, pass percentage was 72.81 as against 68.38 per cent in Government schools. Government, ZP and Municipal schools secured less than State average. Schools that achieved 100 per cent results increased to 1,993 of which 58 are Government schools, 337 Zilla Parishad schools, 107 Government residential schools and 71 Social Welfare schools.

The supplementary examination will be held from June 24 to July 7. The Minister said since the time available is limited, failed candidates should appear for the supplementary examination without waiting for recounting of results.

Last date for fee

The last date for remittance of fee to the heads of schools is June 15.

Marks sheets would be given to all candidates within 10 days.
