THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan on Sunday said the State Government would not slash the Sales Tax rates on petroleum products as suggested by some Congress leaders to offset the hike in fuel prices announced by the Union Government.

Responding to a question at a press conference here, he said that when the Oommen Chandy Government made such a gesture last year, the hike in fuel prices was a small one. This time the prices of petrol and diesel have gone up by Rs.4 and Rs.2 respectively.
