Gold jewellery weighing a little over nine kilograms found inside a couple of baggage of a rail traveller at Tiruchi Junction on Thursday night took the Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel by surprise.
The ornaments, worth approximately Rs.3 crore, including ear studs and nose pins were found by the RPF personnel when the baggage of the traveller, Manoj (30), were sent through the scanner installed at the station’s entrance. Manoj, involved in gold business and owning a jewellery shop in Tiruchi, came to the station to board the Chennai-bound Mangalore Express when the high-prized valuables were noticed inside his baggage.
On inquired, Manoj is said to have told the RPF personnel that he was carrying the ornaments to Chennai to hand them over to his customer.
Manoj, owner of a jewellery shop in Tiruchi, paid a fine of over Rs.7 lakhs. Ornaments returned to him.
