Mobile number portability is expected to be rolled out nationwide by February, Telecom Minister Kapil Sibal said on Thursday. This will allow users to retain their numbers even if they move from one State to another.
“For the timely implementation of the National Telecom Policy-2012, the Department of Telecom has finalised a broad agenda for the next three months,” he said at ‘India Telecom 2012’ here. Some of the key initiatives to be completed were approval for spectrum assignment and pricing, a unified licence regime, merger and acquisition guidelines, finalisation of guidelines for spectrum sharing, creation of a fund for research and development and manufacturing and mobile number portability nationwide, he said.
