Mild tremors rocked parts of Khammam, Krishna and Guntur districts on Thursday afternoon causing panic among the people, who ran out of their homes.
The tremors lasted five seconds in several villages in Chintakani, Madhira, Yerrupalem and Bonakal mandals of Khammam district. A few houses reportedly developed minor cracks at Patharlapadu village in Chintakani mandal. Revenue Divisional Officer V. Venkateshwarlu said instructions were issued to MROs to stay put in their respective headquarters.
In Guntur district, people ran out of their homes in Amaravathi, Atchampet and Krosur mandals. Some houses reportedly developed cracks. There was however no loss of life or damage to property.
The tremors were experienced in seven mandals of Krishna district. Police and fire personnel were put on high alert for the next 12 hours. According to R.K. Chadha, seismologist at CSIR-NGRI here, the epicentre of the tremor (2.8 magnitude on Richter scale) was near Madhira in Khammam district.
