Mahabubnagar: Two persons were taken into custody on Sunday in connection with the ghastly incident in which 13 persons were burnt alive on Friday night at Polkampalli village of Daulathabad mandal in the district, according to the police authorities.

Though they were reluctant to reveal the names of the arrested persons, it is learnt that the main accused in the case Dr. Ananthaiah, brother of late Kistappa, and Ashok, eldest son of the deceased Hanmaiah, were taken into custody.

But Ashok, while speaking to local media at Kodangal police station, denied that he was taken into custody. "I have come here on my own to lodge a complaint against the brutal attack on my familyby the rival group," he said.

Body identified

Ashok alleged that over 100 men led by Dr. Ananthaiah and Srihari, son of Kistappa, torched his two houses and burnt alive 13 persons of his family. He stated that he and his friends who accompanied him to the village to participate in a function were attacked by the supporters of Kistappa family.

Meanwhile, the police identified the body of Kanakappa who had come to Hanmaiah's house from his village Abangapur to participate in the function.

All the 13 dead persons were buried in the fields of Hanmaiah late on Saturday after conducting autopsy.

An eerie calm prevailed in Polkampalli. Almost all the male persons fled their homes apprehending police arrest. Police pickets were being conducted in the village.
