Police not sure of how the boy was hit; different versions of accident
HYDERABAD: LKG student M. Ravi Teja was killed after the mini-bus in which he came to the school, hit him in front of his school at A.S. Rao Nagar on Wednesday.
Bus driver M. Sharat did not notice the boy being knocked down and drove away apparently in a hurry to pick up students for the second trip. A local resident, Satyanarayana, who noticed the unconscious boy, rushed him to a hospital where he was declared dead on arrival.
Police were not sure of how the boy was run over as the bus driver and the school watchman, M. Laxman, who was in the bus, gave different versions of the incident. The bus makes three trips to bring students and Ravi Teja, resident of Vajpayeenagar, came in the first trip at 8.15 a.m.
Police said the watchman escorted the boy and other students into the school premises. The boy's school bag was also found in the classroom. "We believe the boy came out for some reason," Neredmet Inspector A. Balakoti said.
Police surmise that the boy might have crawled underneath the bus to collect some object when it moved. The nature of injuries on the boy's head indicate that he was not crushed under the wheels, but was hit probably by the side of the rear wheel or axle. There were no other injuries except some scratches on his face. Bus driver Sharat was arrested on charges of rash and negligent driving leading to death .
Mild tension prevailed when relatives and activists of the CPI took the body and demonstrated in front of the school. Secunderabad Cantonment MLA G. Sayanna, however, pacified the crowd assuring to take up the matter with school authorities.
