A five-year-old girl who was kidnapped from outside her house in Gandhi Nagar here on Sunday was found brutalised with severe injuries to her private parts on another floor of the same building. The absconding culprit is learnt to have subjected the victim to unnatural sex over three days.

The victim, who was rescued after the area residents heard her cries, is now battling for life at a hospital.

The girl lives with her mother and younger sibling in a rented accommodation on the first floor of a building, whereas her labourer father is in Punjab. She was playing outside her house when she went missing on Sunday. Her mother and neighbours searched for her in the area in vain and then reported the matter to the police.

Though the police insist that investigations to trace the victim were undertaken on Monday, questions are being raised about the seriousness of the effort as the girl was found in a room on the ground floor of the same building three days later.

It was an occupant of the building who heard her weeping inside a room on Wednesday morning and called in the police. They broke open the door and found the girl lying there in a serious condition.

There were also ligature marks on her body.

The girl was rushed to a hospital in Dilshad Garden where she was operated upon on Thursday morning. “There was a tear in the vagina and rectum. We operated her and found three candles and a hair-oil bottle inserted inside her, due to which there was an infection in the abdomen,” said Dr. R.N. Bansal, the Medical Superintendant of Swami Dayanand Hospital.
