All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam general secretary Jayalalithaa's offer of support to the Congress has betrayed her sense of desperation, Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam spokesperson T.K.S. Elangovan said on Thursday.

“No party will volunteer like this. This only shows that she is more desperate to come back to power at any cost,” Mr. Elangovan told The Hindu. Defending Union Minister for Communications and Information Technology A. Raja, the party spokesperson said the report of the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) indicated “notional losses” suffered. “If Ministers had to quit on the basis of CAG reports, no Minister can hold the post,” he argued.

Referring to the controversyin Bihar a few months ago in the wake of findings of the CAG on the alleged irregularities in developmental schemes, he said the Opposition in Bihar had demanded Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's resignation, but he did not quit. Besides, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) was examining the matter, which was also pending before the Supreme Court. Mr Raja had been saying that he did not violate norms of the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), the spokesperson added.
