SRINAGAR: An Army jawan was killed and another injured when militants opened fire on a search party in Baramulla district of Jammu and Kashmir on Friday, defence sources said.
Heavily armed militants opened fire on the troops, who were on an area domination-cum-search operation in the forests of Chapra-Aragam in Bandipora area, the sources said. In the ensuing gun battle, two jawans sustained injuries. One of them, Bikey Singh, died later. The operation to flush out the militants was going. A caller introducing himself as Jameel Ahmed, spokesman of the Jamiat-ul-Mujahibeen, said activists of the outfit along with the Lashker-e-Toiba and the Jaish-e-Mohammad carried out the attack. PTI
