As many as 24 persons were arrested on Friday in connection with a group clash at Matlampatti village.
According to police sources, the clash occurred on Thursday when a woman was hit by a cricket ball during a match conducted as part of a temple festival.
Police sources said that all the arrested persons were produced before a magistrate in Dharmapuri and lodged in Salem Central Prison on Friday.
Karimangalam police have registered a case under sections 147 (rioting), 148 (rioting armed with deadly weapon), 294B (sings, recites or utters any obscene song), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 324 (voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means), 307 (attempt to murder) of IPC and section 3 of Tamil Public Property Damages Liability Act.
It was alleged that a rival group indulged in stone throwing leaving seven people injured in the incident.
Protesting against this, a group of 50 women blocked the road leading to Matlampatti from National Highways demanding action against the rival group.
They dispersed as soon as police reached the spot.
